ABOUT JOB
Ship Shore Compatibility Study, SSCS
The SSCS team is a department of Mitsui O.S.K. Lines in Tokyo, Japan, that performs compatibility assessments for safe and efficient berthing between LNG vessels and terminals worldwide.
Through data analysis based on international guidelines (OCIMF MEG-4, SIGTTO, etc.) and Optimoor simulations, the team ensures reliability and safety for both vessels and terminals.
Additionally, SSCS results are not just about technical safety but are closely connected to commercial elements directly linked to charter schedules and cargo transportation contracts, playing a key role in supporting the company's commercial operations.
KEY TASKS
- Preparation of SSCS materials including Certificates, Drawings, and Inspection Records
- Creation of Compatibility Lists and Mooring Study Reports
- Communication with LNG terminals, charterers, and related departments
- Maintenance and updating of SSCS databases (status lists, terminal information, vessel information, etc.)
REQUIRED SKILLS
- Technical Analysis Skills – Ability to compare vessel and terminal specifications, and interpret mooring conditions and simulations
- Systematic Documentation and Data Management Skills – Competency in managing Confirmation Lists and SSCS databases
- Global Communication Skills – Ability to conduct professional discussions in English with terminals, shipowners, charterers, and other stakeholders
- Detailed Problem-Solving Skills – Capability to analyze various issues that arise during berthing safety reviews and propose solutions
JOB INTERVIEW
Q1. Please introduce the team's area of work.
The SSCS (Ship Shore Compatibility Study) team is responsible for reviewing berthing compatibility between LNG vessels and terminals worldwide.
We compare vessel specifications and terminal facility data, review mooring stability through Optimoor simulations, prepare SSCS-related documents and Confirmation Lists, and collaborate with terminals, vessel managers, and shipowners.
SSCS goes beyond simple technical compatibility checks to establish criteria for determining whether a vessel can use a specific terminal.
These assessment results are directly connected to future charter contracts, cargo schedules, and voyage plans, making SSCS a key procedure that supports safety assurance as well as commercial decision-making.
Q2. What skills are required to work in this team?
SSCS work directly deals with safety between vessels and terminals, requiring knowledge of LNG vessels and an understanding of mooring and berthing principles.
Additionally, meticulous data organization and document preparation skills are essential for creating SSCS-related documents and Compatibility Lists.
Global communication skills using English are also important due to frequent collaboration with domestic and international terminals, shipowners, charterers, and related departments.
Finally, problem-solving abilities are required to analyze various constraints that may arise during the berthing process and propose solutions.
Q3. What is the team atmosphere like?
The SSCS team has a meticulous and systematic atmosphere due to the data-based analytical nature of our work.
However, we also maintain an open and collaborative culture as we work closely with overseas team members, sharing information and helping each other.
While each person handles independent vessel or terminal projects, there is active collaboration among team members during problem-solving processes, creating a team atmosphere where both expertise and teamwork can be demonstrated simultaneously.
